Top 5 Medical Advancements in 2023 You Need to Know About

16.04.23 | ameleemon | 5 Comments

The medical field is constantly expanding. With newer technology, there is the possibility to extend human life in different ways. From gene-editing to 3D printing organs, this proves that medicine will continue to advance to higher levels and create a greater quality of life for the human race.

1. CRISPR

This advancement in the medical field has the potential to change the world. Genetic diseases that humans thought were once incurable are now curable thanks to CRISPR, a powerful genome-editing tool.

“CRISPR” is an acronym for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats. CRISPR is a component of bacterial immune systems that can cut DNA and has been repurposed as a powerful genome-editing tool. Essentially, it’s a way of finding a specific bit of DNA inside a cell and altering that piece of DNA. It has the power to cut out diseases related to our genes such as cystic fibrosis and cancer and add healthy DNA that will benefit humans.

2. AI in Medicine

AI is taking the medical field by storm. Lately, we’ve seen AI across all different platforms in all different sectors. From AI-generated art to self-driving cars, it is truly a glimpse into the future. AI is making its way into the medical field with the use of machine learning models to search medical data and uncover insights to help improve health outcomes and patient experiences.

3. The use of VR

We’ve seen VR these past years in video games, but more than ever we’re seeing it used in the medical field. Virtual Reality is used in many different sectors across the medical field, it allows users to simulate a situation or experience of interest, using a VR headset, within an interactive but computer-generated environment.

4. 3D Printed Organs

Although it is currently in a very early stage of development, the idea of 3D-printing organs is showing a lot of promise for the future of organ transplants. The major health crisis in terms of the shortage of organs puts many lives at risk, but 3D-printed organs would solve this issue complety.

The organs that could possibly be created are:

  • Multilayered skin
  • Bones
  • Muscle structures
  • Blood vessels
  • Retinal tissue
  • Mini-organs (heart, liver, kidney)

5. Nanomedicine

Nanomedicine is defined as the medical application of nanotechnology, and it is becoming closer to reality than ever. It ranges from the medical applications of nanomaterials and biological devices to nanoelectronic biosensors and even possible future applications of molecular nanotechnologies, such as biological machines.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, these medical advances will certainly change the world in the coming years, so keep your eyes peeled!

Articles about each medical advancement in detail will be posted each week, be sure to subscribe to the newsletter to not miss any new articles.
